Pearly Everlasting (Anaphalis margaritacea) is a hardy native wildflower known for its clusters of small, papery white flowers with golden centers that resemble tiny pearls. Blooming from mid to late summer, the long-lasting flowers attract a variety of pollinators including native bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects. It is also an important host plant for the American Lady butterfly (Vanessa virginiensis), whose caterpillars feed on the foliage.
The silvery-gray leaves add soft texture to plantings and help the plant tolerate dry, sunny conditions. Pearly Everlasting spreads gradually by rhizomes, forming attractive patches in prairies, meadows, and naturalized gardens. The flowers retain their shape when dried, making them a classic choice for everlasting bouquets while also supporting pollinators and wildlife.
