Ozark Blue Star (Amsonia illustris) is a striking native perennial prized for its clusters of soft, star-shaped pale blue flowers in late spring. The blooms provide nectar for a variety of pollinators, especially native bees, small carpenter bees, mason bees, and butterflies. Like other Bluestars, it also serves as a host plant for several moth species, whose caterpillars feed on the foliage and help support the broader food web.
Glossy green leaves create a tidy, upright clump through summer before turning a brilliant golden-yellow in fall, adding outstanding seasonal interest. Its strong structure makes it a beautiful companion to prairie grasses and other sun-loving natives. Ozark Blue Star is long-lived, low maintenance, and deer-resistant, making it an excellent choice for pollinator gardens and naturalized landscapes where it can quietly support wildlife while providing multi-season beauty.
